SPARK named Architect of the Year at German Design Awards

SPARK’s award-winning streak continues with an extraordinary honour. The international Iconic Awards, organised by the German Design Council, have named SPARK ‘Architects of the Year’ for 2014. SPARK will be accepting the award at a ceremony in Munich on 6 October 2014.

‘Architects of the Year’ is a special award given alongside the Iconic programme’s project-specific accolades to an architectural office for outstanding achievements in the discipline. SPARK was nominated by a specialist jury as well as representatives of the trade media.

Winning the ‘Architects of the Year’ accolade in 2014 is, in the words of SPARK Director Jan F. Clostermann, “hugely encouraging to our young practice.”

He adds, “We are extremely grateful to each and every member of our 100-strong team, and to the German Design Council for the generous prize that comes with the award. SPARK has supported charitable causes through pro bono design work for Fai-Fah Prachautis – a community learning centre in Bangkok – and mobile school containers for areas affected by the Chengdu earthquake. This prize money gives us the chance to start a bursary fund to support talented young architecture students who need financial help.”

The yearly Iconic Awards recognise inspired architecture and interiors, innovative products, sustainable architectural communication, and visionary architectural concepts. The programme focuses on how the various disciplines interact; it is the first neutral international architecture and design competition to do so.

The 2014 jury consisted of representatives of the fields of architecture, interior design, design and brand communications. SPARK is honoured to be recognised by specialist peers as a leading practice dedicated to the creation of exemplary architecture and finely integrated environments.
