SPARK’s design for Jiaojiang Fishery Town [Taizhou Seafood Market] moves away from the utilitarian, single-purpose wholesale yard of the past, transforming the 135,500 m² site into a multifaceted, 250,000 m² destination where industrial production seamlessly coexists with public life under the guiding philosophy of "South for Production, North for Tourism [南产北游]."

1. Architecture Driven by Wave and Sail
The architectural envelope draws directly from the spirit of the sea. The market’s exterior features horizontal silver-gray gradient aluminum panels paired with modular louvers that echo the undulating rhythm of river ripples, highlighted with champagne-toned canopy undercrofts. Across the logistics zone, elevated parapet rooflines evoke the sweeping profile of fishing sails heading out to sea—giving an essential industrial facility an expressive, place-based identity.

2. Modernising the Market Floor
Traditional seafood markets are often perceived as dark, damp, and congested. Inside the 18,000 m² Phase II seafood wholesale market, that just opened, high-clearance steel framing and continuous ribbon skylights flood the central floor with diffused daylight:
Legible Navigation: Vibrant orange primary columns stand out against a calm gray backdrop, acting as intuitive wayfinding between 140 central trading stalls and 134 perimeter shopfronts.
Environmental Health: A dedicated on-site wastewater treatment plant processing 400 tons daily, alongside high-standard ventilation and drainage networks, cures long-standing operational pain points.
Digital & Social Extensions: The complex integrates modern office facilities, an adjacent parking building topped with a lush community roof terrace, and dedicated live-streaming e-commerce studios that link coastal catches directly to online national trade.
3. Future Horizons: Extending the Experience Economy
Behind the active wholesale floors, the core cold-chain logistics facility is rising rapidly—targeting structural completion later this year and commissioning in 2027 to deliver 50,000 tons of multi-temperature storage capacity.

Future phases will open up the riverbank with seafood dining stalls, exhibition halls for local yellow croaker, and an expansive public event canopy that transforms the riverside into a lively civic promenade day and night.
