The judges commend this exceptional transformation of a former industrial settlement into China's first International Industrial Design Village. The innovative "Social Picturesque" concept masterfully fuses traditional Suzhou garden principles and culture with contemporary urban planning and design, creating a culturally resonant and economically viable development that is both sustainable and honours history. Its human-centred design prioritises pedestrian experience through car-free zones, whilst the central water feature surrounded by waterfront buildings demonstrates excellent spatial relationships.

The project also exemplifies environmental stewardship through its lake system harmonising with the adjacent Huqiu Wetland, and comprehensive programming which encompasses studios, museums, hotels, and commercial spaces. The proven implementability—from 2021 competition winner to 2024 Phase 1 opening—showcases exceptional execution, making this project a worthy Gold Award recipient.
