254,000 sqm | Landscape, Planning

SPARK’s 254,000 sqm master plan for the Shanghai district of Minghang is designed to act as a bridge between the existing public spaces, infrastructure, adjacent business parks and the Shanghai Jiaotong University campus. The ambition is to open up opportunities that create meaningful relationships within an overall connected innovation district for Shanghai.
The thematic identity of SPARK’s master plan is the “connectivity” of the radio wave. Varying radio frequencies as they pass through different environments are used as the motif and patterning of the landscaped surfaces. The interface of the tech start-up companies, university and government amenities with the landscape creates a positive and lively urban platform that links the university and technology companies together.
All parts of the district are seen as potential learning environments that energize the public realm, flexible outdoor spaces work seamlessly with the existing buildings to encourage collaboration and interaction between the public, technology businesses and the university.

“THE THEMATIC IDENTITY OF SPARK’S MASTER PLAN IS THE “CONNECTIVITY” OF THE RADIO WAVE. VARYING RADIO FREQUENCIES AS THEY PASS THROUGH DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENTS ARE USED AS THE MOTIF AND PATTERNING OF THE LANDSCAPED SURFACES.
