It is likely that by 2030 most countries will radically reduce or eliminate the manufacture/import and export of petrol and diesel cars. The car manufacturing industry is going through the most extraordinary revolution since the first development of the internal combustion engine, sales of electric cars is rocketing around the world. SPARK is researching the impact on the traditional service station forecourt, these facilities that have been with us for decades will either disappear or undergo radical transformation.
The pockets of land currently used by the service stations could house in the near future new architectural typologies that provide a variety of activities and programmes that engage with their local communities as well as providing the plug in charging facilities for the growing phalanx of electric vehicles.
